Elgin Valley Wine Tours
The area of Elgin is located in the Overberg Region which is renowned for its apples. This is the gateway to the southern Cape and provides the visitor with stunning views amongst the orchards, vineyards, natural fynbos and flowers as well as the forests.
The production of a wide here began in the 1980's and introduced and variety of fruity wines to the market.
Elgin Valley Climate
The climate here is cool and lends itself to the slower ripening of the grapes compared to other South African wine regions. They have a concentrated flavor due to this slow process and there are many diverse terroirs that offer completely different wines. The vineyards are set in the Green Mountain Eco Route as part of the Kogelberg Biosphere, making this the first biodiversity wine route in the world. This is also the only wine region that is completely surrounded by mountains further adding to the unique wines.
The Best Elgin Valley Wines
This areas terroir allows for the excellent production of Shiraz, Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Noir among other delicate, fruity wines. The appellations have been compared to that of Burgundy wines.
