Constantia Wine Tours

The Constantia Valley has been producing first class wines for over 400 years with Simon Van der Stel's establishment of the Constantia Estate, and is now home to 5 famous winemakers namely, Buitenverwachting (Beyond Expectations), Groot Constantia, Klein Constantia, Steenberg, and Constantia Uitsig (View).

The first wine blend produced here was enjoyed by the French aristocracy and even by the French Emperor, Napoleon Bonaparte. It was perfected by Hendrik Cloete who took over the wine farm in 1778, by blending Muscat de Frontignan, Pontac, Chenin Blanc and both red and white Muscadel. The stunning scenery in Constantia combined with quaint farm style restaurants offering exquisite meals, luxury hotels and pristine golf courses make this one of the best wine regions in the country.

Constantia Climate

The Constantia area is located only a short distance from Cape Town center tucked into the mountains between there and Simon's Town. The climate here is warm with cool breezes blowing off the Ocean in False Bay. You also get a fair amount of rainfall here with good, soil.

This region is so versatile that a large range of wines are produces to the highest award winning standards. You can find beautiful reds and whites, but the most popular wines include the Shiraz, Sauvignon Blanc, Merlot, Pinotage, Semillon, Cabernet Sauvignon, and the Chardonnay.
