New Zealand Wine Distribution
The New Zealand wine industry has grown steadily in the past two decades to become one of the major players in the global marketplace.
According to figures released by the New Zealand Winegrowers in 2007, New Zealand wine exports are at an all time high. In 2007, the country exported NZ$700 million of wine, 36% more than it did the previous year.
Major global markets including the United Kingdom, Australia, and the United States of America made significant contributions to this growth.
The United Kingdom is New Zealand's largest wine market, accounting for sales of NZ$227 million in 2007. This is an increase of 37% from the previous year.
The United States is one of New Zealand's newest export markets, and it has also shown strong growth. In 2007, New Zealand shipped NZ$176 million worth of wine to the US, up 27% on the previous year.
However, the largest percentage increase is in the Australian wine market. Aided by strong marketing campaigns at food and wine shows around the country, New Zealand wine exports were up 47% to NZ$180 million in 2007.
New Zealand's domestic market is also strong, with local wine sales exceeding NZ$500 million in 2007. This equates to roughly 51 million liters of wine.
New Zealand is now looking to the future, with plans to expand its exports to emerging international markets including Canada, Korea, and China. The New Zealand wine industry is on track to export NZ$1 billion by 2010, and NZ$2 billion by 2015.
