Touring the South Peninsula’s Wineries
A baby in the eyes of the viticulture industry, the wineries around the Far South Peninsula areas like Noordhoek, Cape Point, Scarborough and Red Hill (overlooking Simon’s Town) are beginning to make their mark locally as well as internationally. Aside from the amazing scenery that awaits you when you visit the Far South Peninsula, the wines that you will experience here are crisp, clean and full of flavor.
South Peninsula Climate
The Cape Point area has a relatively cool climate with cool breezes from the Atlantic Ocean as well as warm Indian Ocean ones. The Noordhoek wineries are set against the slopes of the mountain overlooking the both oceans and receive the perfect conditions for the slow ripening of the grapes. There is also a fair amount of rainfall to produce premium blends.
The Best Wines
The majority of grapes grown here are of the Sauvignon Blanc variety, which there has been wide praise for. The Semillon is also popular and a new vineyard on Red Hill will produce the first red wines for the area.
